Senior Process Engineer

This position is responsible for applying advanced process techniques, analyses and practices towards high-quality customer solutions. This position requires collaboration with a dynamic, cross-functional, team in order to execute a variety of process deliverables. As a leader within this technical discipline, this position is also expected to mentor less experienced process engineers and promote innovative thinking and problem solving.

Primary
Duties

  • Assist in defining process engineering project execution strategies, along with the process engineering manager.
  • Coordination with applications & proposals to develop process design basis.
  • Develop complex process simulation models using standard simulation programs (HYSYS and/or Promax) for use in process design and the development of deliverables.
  • Validate performance of new compositions in standard offerings, and identify customized changes or adders for potential customers.
  • Conduct the process design of equipment including vessels, columns, heat exchangers and package process specifications for equipment and control valves.
  • Develop process engineering deliverables (and aid in the development of inter-discipline deliverables) like PFD’s, heat and material balances, P&ID’s, equipment datasheets, utility summaries and other process deliverables required for the project.
  • Participate in informal studies and technical briefings with clients, suppliers and other departments/disciplines.
  • Participate in technical reviews and bid tabbing.
  • Prepare conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
  • Identify issues, problems and value improvement opportunities, and help clarify areas of complexity during all phases of the engineering design work.
  • Help define training documents for field services.
  • Assist with field start-up and troubleshooting of facilities from office or site.
  • Troubleshoot client’s processes related to the technology.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and promote innovative thinking and problem solving.

Secondary
Duties

  • Develop cause and effects and control loop descriptions for project execution.
  • Prepare process modifications and implement new products and processes that are in-line with the company objective.
  • Review and approve process engineering deliverables including PFD’s, heat and material balances, equipment datasheets, utility summaries and other process deliverables required for the project, as needed and assigned.
  • Actively pursue and participate in improving current technologies and identifying new technologies.
  • Develop and implement options for asset optimization like debottlenecking, capacity improvement and the improvement of execution efficiency within the discipline.
  • Write technical papers to promote solutions and present at conferences.
  • Technically support proposals and marketing by developing technical data presented in proposals and aiding in cost analysis.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be self-directed and able to perform duties with little or no supervision.
  • Expertise in process engineering—cryogenics, dewpoint, fractionation, and FEED/FEL design.
  • Must possess practical knowledge of plant operations.
  • Hands-on field experience in commissioning, start-up and performance tests.
  • Knowledge of process safety design concepts and documentation requirements.
  • Command of general chemical engineering principles and calculations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, external clients, and management.
  • Command of general chemical engineering principles and calculations.
  • Can work collaboratively across functions and involve others in solving problems.
  • Intimate working knowledge of industrial and regulatory standards.
  • Involvement and knowledge of HAZOP/HAZID/LOPA/SIL safety reviews.
  • Experience with complex modelling in HYSYS and/or ProMax
  • Ability to develop creative solutions to support best cost options while driving successful budget execution.

Position
Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. PE registration is a plus.
  • Experience: 7+ years of experience in Oil & Gas Industry in process engineering.
